Marine Drive Closed Today As Mumbai Pays Tribute To Late Ratan Tata With Public Homage At NCPA

Mumbai, 10th October 2024: Marine Drive, beyond the Oberoi Hotel, is closed to traffic today as Mumbai pays tribute to the late Ratan Tata, the respected industrialist and former chairman of Tata Sons. His body will be available for public homage at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) from 10 AM to 4 PM.

The procession will carry Tata’s body from his home in Colaba to the NCPA, a distance of approximately 2 kilometres, beginning at 9:45 AM. To facilitate this journey, the Mumbai Police have established a green corridor.

As reported by Lokmat Times, those wishing to pay their respects are instructed to enter through Gate 3 and exit via Gate 2, as parking will not be available on-site. The police have promised a strong presence to ensure order during the memorial.

Following the public viewing, Tata’s body will be transported to Worli for cremation, following Parsi customs. The final rites will take place later in the day at the Prayer Hall of the Worli Crematorium. Ratan Tata, who passed away at the age of 86 after a prolonged illness, leaves behind a profound legacy of contributions to Indian industry and a dedication to philanthropy and social responsibility.

In a mark of respect, the Maharashtra government has declared a day of mourning. The Chief Minister’s Office has stated that the national flag will be flown at half-mast at all government offices statewide. Additionally, all entertainment events have been cancelled for the day, reflecting the deep respect held for one of India’s most esteemed figures.
