Mumbai Airport Redevelopment in Progress: MIAL Dismantles 20 Uninhabited Buildings in Air India Colony

Mumbai, 24th January 2024: Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) has commenced the demolition of 20 uninhabited and dilapidated structures located at the Air India Colony. The process is being conducted meticulously, adhering strictly to the law and in accordance with the permission and handover granted by AIAHL, the PSU Asset Holding Company of the erstwhile Air India. This initiative is a key component of MIAL’s comprehensive redevelopment plan for the airport land.

It is important to note that, at present, no demolition actions have been taken for the remaining 80+ buildings within the colony, as they are currently occupied. MIAL is following due legal processes by filing eviction applications under the AAI Act for these occupied structures.

MIAL reaffirms its commitment to upholding the law and is dedicated to ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of the airport. Recognizing Mumbai Airport’s status as a land-constrained aviation asset, this redevelopment initiative represents a pivotal step in the airport’s continuous efforts to contribute to the expansion and enhancement of existing passenger facilities. This, in turn, supports the overall growth and progress of Mumbai.
