Mumbai: Police Apprehend Man Who Was Wanted For 20 Years

Mumbai, 5th March 2023: The Kasturba Marg police recently located and apprehended a man who had been wanted for 20 years in connection with an assault case.

In 1991, Yasin Shaikh had been detained in connection with an assault. He was proclaimed to be missing by a court in February 2003. Officers visited his home in Devipada in Borivali East daily but in vain. His chawl was afterwards destroyed by local officials. Police decided to travel to his hometown after receiving no leads from Borivali. They were able to locate him at his Beed address, thanks to an informant.

The cops encountered the local sarpanch of Shaikh’s village while visiting Beed. They were informed by the sarpanch that Shaikh had a base of operations in Mumbai.

After returning to Mumbai, the police squad used their network of informants. They continued searching for Shaikh over the years and eventually located him in a chawl in Dahisar.

He was residing in the home of an autorickshaw driver in the Dahisar slum of Shivaji Nagar. Shaikh was detained and brought in front of a local court.
