Mumbai Police Enforces Restrictions for Holi Festivities to Maintain Public Order

Mumbai, 12th March 2025: To ensure public order and safety during the upcoming Holi, Dhulivandan, and Rang Panchami festivities, the Mumbai police have imposed certain restrictions. These measures, in effect from March 12 to March 18, prohibit individuals from spraying colors or water on pedestrians and from engaging in public obscenity, including singing vulgar songs.

The directive, issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Akbar Pathan, outlines the following prohibitions across Mumbai for the designated period:

– Prohibition on obscene expressions: The public use of vulgar language, slogans, or the singing of inappropriate songs is strictly forbidden.

– Ban on offensive symbols and gestures: The display of gestures, images, placards, symbols, or any other forms of expression that could be considered indecent or offensive to public morality is not allowed.

– Restriction on spraying colored water: Spraying or throwing colored water, dyes, or powder at pedestrians is strictly prohibited.

– No water balloons: The making and throwing of water-filled balloons, whether colored or plain, is not permitted during the celebrations.

The order warns that anyone found violating these regulations, or assisting others in doing so, will face legal consequences under Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951.
