Mumbai: Tragedy Strikes Girgaon Chowpatty: Fire Claims Lives of Two Senior Citizens in Gomti Bhavan.
Girgaon, 4th December 2023: Tragedy struck in Girgaon Chowpatty area as a fire engulfed the Gomti Bhavan Society on AR Rangnekar Road late on Saturday night, claiming the lives of two senior citizens. The victims have been identified as Nalini Shah (82 years) and Hiren Shah (60 years). The fire, which broke out around 7:30 pm in a house on the third floor, rapidly spread through the three-story building and its attic.
Firefighters promptly initiated rescue operations, managing to evacuate nine people trapped in the building after cutting off the power supply. By 10 pm, the fire was declared a level two emergency. As the building occupants were questioned about potential trapped individuals, it became evident that two people were still inside. The fire brigade discovered the charred remains of the victims, one in the bedroom and the other in the bathroom, both beyond recognition due to extensive burns.
The fire brigade’s relentless efforts continued until 3:30 am, successfully extinguishing the flames. The bodies of the deceased have been sent to the hospital for further procedures.
