Mumbai: Passengers Demand Immediate Action Over Inadequate Infrastructure Facilities At Dombivli Railway Station

Dombivli, 12th July 2023: Passengers commuting through Dombivli Railway Station have voiced their growing concerns over the persistently inadequate infrastructure, specifically the impeded escalator facilities and the drainage problems of the railway station. The passengers’ complaints, such as the frequent closure of the escalators and drainage issues, cause significant inconvenience and difficulty for travellers, particularly those with disabilities. Frustratingly, the authorities’ lack of responsiveness to the situation exacerbates the passengers’ ongoing troubles.

Approximately two and a half to three lakh passengers travel from Dombivli railway station every day, which highlights the urgent need for prompt and efficient services of these facilities. Recognising this demand, the railway administration has taken measures to improve passenger convenience by constructing a lift in the east-west section of the station.

However, a prevailing concern arises from the location of the escalator at Dombivli East, which lies along Dr. Roth Road and rests above a subway, with a network of sewage and water supply channels running through the area. This busy route has deterred the administration from initiating essential widening and enhancement of the canal and channel network, fearing potential traffic congestion and inconvenience for passengers.

The proximity of the road to the drain exacerbates the problem during heavy rainfall. Roads such as Patkar Road, Roth Road, and Nehru Road in the vicinity of Dombivli East Railway Station become submerged as rainwater flows beneath the concrete base of the culvert. Unfortunately, once water enters the escalator, it remains closed for an extended period. The prolonged delay in repairs has become a recurring complaint, further emphasising the urgency for action. Distressed passengers now demand that the Railways employ a permanent technician at the station to ensure uninterrupted operation of these crucial passenger service facilities.
