St. George Hospital In Mumbai To Start Three New Specialised Departments To Enhance Patient Care

Mumbai, 13th July 2023: After the inauguration of the state-of-the-art operating room and Hemodialysis centre at St. George’s Hospital, the hospital will now unveil three more departments, namely ophthalmology, urology, and surgery, in the hospital in the coming two weeks. This will enable patients visiting St. George’s Hospital to receive better healthcare services in the future.

The COVID-19 pandemic had necessitated the transformation of St. George’s Hospital into a dedicated facility for coronavirus treatment, resulting in the temporary closure of several departments. But after the effects of the virus were mitigated, the hospital started gradually resuming its full range of services. As a part of it, the construction of a modern surgical theatre was undertaken at St. George’s Hospital.

After the blood purification centre and operation room, three departments of ophthalmology, urology, and surgery will be started in St. George’s Hospital. The Department of Reconstructive Surgery will start next week. Similarly, the urology department will start in the next two weeks. Dr. Vinayak Sawardekar, Medical Superintendent of St. George’s Hospital, informed that Medical Education Minister Girish Mahajan and Secretary Ashwini Joshi have assured their support in ensuring the availability of specialised doctors, professors, and resident doctors for the better functioning of the department.

St. George’s Hospital only has an outpatient gynaecology and paediatrics department. However, with the opening of the renovated operation room, the inpatient section of this department will also be started soon. Dr. Pallavi Saple, the founder of J. J. Hospital, has stated that the requisite professors, assistant professors, and resident doctors will be made available immediately.
