Pregnant Woman Dies During Treatment at Navi Mumbai Civic Hospital, Another Critical; Inquiry Ordered
Navi Mumbai, 3rd July 2026 : An eight-month-pregnant woman allegedly died during treatment at a civic hospital in Airoli, while another pregnant woman remains in critical condition, prompting the to order an inquiry into the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Sonam Dongre, while Richa Mishra is undergoing treatment after her condition reportedly deteriorated.
According to available information, both women developed serious complications while receiving treatment at the municipal hospital in Airoli. They were subsequently shifted to the referral hospital in Vashi for advanced medical care. It has been alleged that the women suffered adverse reactions after being administered an injection, leading to their critical condition.
The incident has sparked concern among citizens, with demands for a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the treatment and appropriate action against anyone found responsible if negligence is established.
Following the incident, Mayor Sujata Patil directed the civic administration to conduct an inquiry. Acting on the directive, the has constituted an inquiry committee, which has been asked to submit its findings within 15 days.
Responding to the incident, Dr. Rajesh Mhatre, Medical Officer, said that the concerned injection is routinely administered to pregnant women at municipal hospitals. He stated that while one patient had died and another remains under treatment, an inquiry committee has been appointed to determine the exact cause of the death and examine all aspects of the case.
The committee is expected to investigate the sequence of events, review medical protocols followed during treatment, and determine whether any lapse occurred. The findings of the inquiry will guide any further administrative or disciplinary action.
