Pune: Hinjawadi Police Crackdown on Illicit Hookah Parlours, Seize Items Valued at Rs 49,400

Hinjawadi, 29th February 2024: The Hinjawadi police recently cracked down on hookah parlours that were in operation within two hotels, namely Hotel Spice Factory in Wakad and Hotel Sea Dock near Kasturi Chowk. The confiscated items in this operation were valued at ₹49,400.

Identified as Swapnil Dange, a resident of Wakad, and Tanaji Sayaji Desai, a 28-year-old resident of Wakad with roots in Kolhapur, the owner of Hotel Spice Factory, the accused are now facing charges. The complaint against them was officially lodged by Police Constable Dattatray Shinde at the Hinjawadi Police Station.

Acting on a tip-off, Hinjawadi police conducted a raid on an illicit hookah parlour operating within Hotel Spice Factory at Wakad, falling under the jurisdiction of Hinjawadi police station. During the operation, authorities seized items such as an iron barbecue, electric grill, coal, and hookah materials, the combined value of which was Rs. 15,800.

Simultaneously, another enforcement action took place at Hotel Sea Dock near Kasturi Chowk. Kishore Dilip Kate (38, residing in Pimple Saudagar), Akshay Prabhakar Kalate (28, residing in Wakad), and Dinesh Suresh Kate (residing in Pimple Saudagar) are now facing charges. The accused allegedly provided hookah services to customers without obtaining the necessary license for operating a hookah parlour in Hotel Sea Dock. The complaint was officially filed by Police Naik Chandrakant Gade at Hinjawadi Police Station. The police confiscated Rs. 33,600 during the raid, and an ongoing investigation by Hinjawadi police is underway.
