Thane: Chain Snatchers Caught At Titwala

Thane, 31st March 2023: Since last year, there has been an increase in the number of gold chain snatchers on the roads of Kalyan, Dombivli, Thane, and Bhiwandi. The police of the Kalyan Crime Branch arrested four people in these robbery incidents from the Baneli village area near Titwala on Monday. Police seized gold and silver worth Rs 5.15 lakh from them.

All four robbers are residents of the Irani settlement in Ambivali. They are innkeepers. Cases have been registered against them in many police stations. The names of the accused are Salman alias Rajkoop Asdalla Irani (23), Hasan Aziz Syed (24), Savar Raza Syed Irani (35), and Mastan Ali Dudan Ali Irani (46). In Kalyan, Dombivli police station limits, every day, one or two pedestrians are robbed of gold by two-wheeler thieves. Complaints of these incidents have been filed in various police stations in the Kalyan area.

There is intense resentment among women as the Mangalsutra is stolen often too. The question of these women was whether the police do anything when the thefts are taking place in broad daylight. All these robbery incidents were being investigated by the Kalyan Crime Branch team along with the local police. Senior Police Inspector Kishore Shirsat of the Kalyan Crime Branch received a tip-off that some persons involved in robberies in various parts of the Thane district were coming to Baneli village near Titwala. Sub Inspector Mohan Kalamkar, Constable Sanjay Mali, Balaji Shinde, Gurunath Jarg, Prashant Wankhede, Vilas Kadu, Praveen Bagul, Anup Kamat, Bapurao Jadhav, Megha Jane, Mangala Gavit, Gorakhnath Pote, Amol Borkar, Ulhas Khandare, Vishwas, and others, under the guidance of Senior Inspector Shirsat, laid a trap in the village limits and caught the accused.

From the information given by the accused, they confessed to Senior Inspector Shirsat that they committed six gold chain theft crimes – two in Mahatma Phule police station limits of Kalyan, two in the Market area, one in Tilaknagar limits in Dombivli, one in Kapurbawdi police station and one in Rabodi police station limits.

The police are likely to reveal other crimes from the information of these thieves.
