Thane Municipal Corporation Ranks 4th in Maharashtra for TB Detection and Treatment

Thane, 29th March 2025: The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has secured the fourth rank among 30 municipal corporations in Maharashtra for its outstanding performance in tuberculosis (TB) detection and treatment under a special TB elimination initiative, officials confirmed.
According to an official statement, TMC scored 85 out of 100 points, surpassing cities like Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Bhiwandi Nizampur within the metropolitan region. The assessment was conducted based on key parameters set under the National TB Elimination Programme, which include case detection, treatment efficiency, patient care, medication follow-ups, awareness drives, and support provided to patients through NGOs, explained Dr. Prasad Patil, Chest Physician at the civic-run CSMH Hospital in Kalwa and City TB Officer at TMC.
As part of the TB awareness and detection campaign, screenings were conducted across various locations, including Thane Central Jail, a mental health hospital, construction sites, and shopping malls, along with door-to-door surveys. A total of 5.7 lakh suspected patients were screened using advanced diagnostic machines capable of providing results within two hours, officials stated.
In 2024, TMC registered 8,143 new TB cases within its jurisdiction, contributing to its high ranking. Out of these, 6,936 patients received assistance through the initiative, with 5,772 completing their treatment, while the remaining continue to undergo medical care.
