Email Threatens To Bomb T2 of Mumbai International Airport For Bitcoin

Mumbai, 24th November 2023: Mumbai International Airport was plunged into a security crisis following the reception of a menacing email on Thursday. The foreboding message, directed to the airport’s feedback inbox, issued a stark warning of an imminent explosion at Terminal 2 unless a ransom of USD 1 million in Bitcoin was paid within 48 hours.

The email, originating from the address quaidacasrol@gmail.com, was received by airport authorities around 11 a.m. on Thursday. The sender explicitly conveyed, “Blast. This is your last warning. Unless one million dollars in Bitcoin is transferred to the address, we will bomb Terminal 2 of your airport within 48 hours. Next alert will be issued in 24 hours.”

In response to the grave threat, Mumbai’s Sahar police promptly filed a case against the unidentified perpetrator, invoking Sections 505 (1) (b) (statements made with intent to cause fear or raise alarm to the public or against public tranquility) and 385 (putting a person in fear of injury to commit extortion) of the Indian Penal Code.

Authorities are approaching the situation with utmost seriousness, intensifying security measures at Terminal 2 while conducting thorough investigations into the origin and credibility of the threat. This incident underscores the complexities posed by cybersecurity threats in an era increasingly reliant on digital technology.
