MHADA Waives Registration Fees for Jogeshwari PMGP Redevelopment

Mumbai, 18th July 2026: In a major relief for residents of the PMGP Colony in Jogeshwari, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has proposed waiving the registration fee for permanent alternate accommodation agreements under the colony’s redevelopment project. If approved by the Maharashtra government, beneficiaries will have to pay only a nominal registration charge, significantly reducing their financial burden.

The PMGP Colony, comprising 17 four-storey buildings, is set to undergo complete redevelopment by MHADA after receiving approval from the state government. The ageing structures, spread across a 27,625-square-metre plot, house a total of 984 units, including 942 residential and 42 commercial premises. Under the redevelopment plan, existing occupants will be allotted larger and modern homes in newly constructed buildings.

At present, residents are required to pay registration charges of approximately ₹1.5 lakh to ₹2 lakh while executing agreements for their permanent alternate accommodation. To ease this financial burden, MHADA has submitted a proposal to the Inspector General of Registration and Stamps, Pune, requesting a waiver or substantial reduction in the registration fee.

According to MHADA officials, the proposal has received a positive response from the Registration and Stamps Department. The department had sought a report from the Andheri District Collector (Stamps), which was also favourable. The proposal will now be forwarded to the state’s Revenue Department for final approval.

Officials said that since MHADA is a government authority carrying out the redevelopment, the registration charge could be reduced to a nominal amount of ₹500 to ₹1,000, subject to the state government’s approval.

The redevelopment project aims to replace the dilapidated buildings with safer, larger and better-equipped residential structures, providing improved living conditions for residents. The proposed waiver is expected to benefit all 984 unit holders, making the rehabilitation process more affordable.

MHADA officials said they are actively pursuing the proposal with the state government and expressed hope that a favourable decision will be taken soon, allowing residents to complete the registration process at a minimal cost and facilitating the smooth implementation of the redevelopment project.
