Navi Mumbai, 4th April 2024: Police Inspector Nitin Vijaykar was apprehended by the Vashi Police in connection with a dacoity case, allegedly receiving a portion of the loot amounting to Rs 3.50 lakh from a total sum of Rs 2 crore recovered during the investigation.

Vijaykar, along with five accomplices, faced arrest for the abduction and robbery of a businessman. After his apprehension, Vijaykar was promptly suspended from his duties by the department due to his involvement in criminal activities. An official stated, “Despite Vijaykar’s imminent retirement in three years, he will not be reinstated in the force following his recent entanglement in criminal activities.”

Commencing his career in the police force as a constable in 1987, Vijaykar ascended to the rank of police sub-inspector in 2005 after passing departmental exams. Progressing from sub-inspector to inspector, he served across various locations, including Vikhroli, Force One, Antop Hill, the Anti-Corruption Bureau in Mumbai, Ratnagiri, and ultimately, the security branch of Thane rural police.

A police officer shared insights into Vijaykar’s personal life, stating that he became involved with a woman he met while posted at Antop Hill, leading to financial strains due to his support for her and her children. This, combined with mounting debts, may have driven him towards criminal activities.

Vijaykar’s colleagues expressed shock at his alleged involvement, with one stating, “Vijaykar’s actions are shameful, having tarnished both himself and the department.” The Vashi Police, investigating the case, arrested six individuals, alleging Vijaykar’s participation from planning to execution.

A case has been registered by the Vashi police against Nitin Vijaykar and five others based on a complaint filed by Rajesh Narayandas Katra, a 50-year-old resident of Ghatkopar. The arrested individuals include Vilas Mohite, Mohan Padale, Udya Kavle, Narayan alias Sagar Sawant, Mohan Pawar, and Nitin Vijaykar.
