Cocaine Worth Rs. 5 Crores Seized At Mumbai Airport, Woman Arrested

Mumbai, 30th September 2022: Officials of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Mumbai Customs Department seized around 490 grams of cocaine at the airport and arrested a woman, a Kenyan national, in connection with cocaine smuggling. The seized cocaine is valued at Rs 5 crore.

 

According to sources in the Customs Department, Wambui Kan Wanjiru arrested the woman at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on 28th September. She came from Addis Ababa by Ethiopian Airlines. When her bag was checked, white powder was found and upon examination, it was cocaine. When weighed, it was found to contain 490 grams of cocaine. A man of African descent had given her a packet to deliver to Mumbai. But no information was given about the person it was to be delivered to in Mumbai. Wanjiru told customs officials during interrogation that the person in Mumbai was going to contact her after arrival.

 

Wanjiru was promised money in return for this work. It is being investigated whether she had been to India before. She was arrested under the Narcotics Control Act for smuggling narcotics. Customs officials are making further inquiries about the accomplice of the accused.

 

Meanwhile, Mumbai Customs Division-3 destroyed 111 kg of narcotics worth Rs. 83 crores at Taloja in Navi Mumbai on Wednesday. The narcotics destroyed included 19.48 kg of heroin, 4.95 kg of cocaine, and approximately 44 kg of hashish and ganja.
