Mumbai Police Reconstructs Crime Scene in Saif Ali Khan Attack Case

Mumbai, 21st January 2025: Early on Tuesday, Mumbai police took Mohammed Shariful Islam, a 30-year-old Bangladesh national arrested for the attack on actor Saif Ali Khan, to the actor’s Bandra residence to reconstruct the crime scene and confirm the sequence of events.

The police opted for the early hours, when it was dark, to ensure better accuracy in understanding the attack. Islam is said to have committed the crime between 1:33 am and 2:33 am on January 16. The accused allegedly broke into Saif Ali Khan’s apartment on the 11th floor of a building in Bandra, injuring the family’s nanny and then stabbing the actor six times before fleeing. Saif Ali Khan underwent surgery and is reported to be stable.

During the visit to the crime scene, the police questioned Islam about his entry into the residential compound of Satguru Sharan on St Teresa Road. The accused detailed how he used a ladder to access the first floor, then took a fire escape staircase and a duct shaft to reach the 11th-floor balcony. Sources indicated that Islam broke the metal net covering the balcony door, then hid in the bathroom of Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor’s son, Jehangir.

When Jehangir’s nanny, Eliyama Phillip, saw a shadow, Islam allegedly attempted to rob her at knife-point. After a scuffle between Islam and the nannies, a loud noise alerted Saif Ali Khan, who descended from the 12th floor via internal stairs. The actor tried to intervene, but Islam attacked him six times. The injured Khan and others managed to force Islam into Jehangir’s room before escaping to safety. Islam fled through the same route he had entered.

After leaving the building, Islam rested in a garden near National College in Bandra before catching a train to Dadar. He continued his journey to Worli and then to Thane upon hearing that the police were searching for him. Police eventually arrested him on Sunday morning in Thane’s labour camp area, where he had been hiding in mangroves. Islam was presented in court and remanded to five days of police custody.
