DEMU Mini Train On Neral-Matheran Route, Proposal Of Central Railway

Mumbai, 23rd October 2022: While the Neral-Matheran mini train is coming into service for tourists from 22nd October, it has been decided to run a six-coach DEMU mini train on this route for the safety of passengers. For this, the Central Railway has sent a proposal to the Railway’s Integral Coach Factory in Chennai. Derailment incidents will be prevented due to DEMU trains.

The Neral-Matheran mini train, which has been closed for the past three years, will be restarted on 22nd October. There will be four rounds, up and down, during the day. Along with Neral to Matheran, Aman Lodge to Matheran shuttle services are also operated. At present, there are three mini trains of six coaches each, and they run on diesel engines. Another engine is also attached to the front and rear coaches while running those trains.

In addition, the coaches also get bumped a lot while running the mini train. There have been incidents of this train derailing due to technical problems. Therefore, keeping in mind the safety of the passengers, the Central Railway has sent a proposal to run a six-coach demo train to the railway factory in Chennai and has also been asked to build coaches with gears and trolleys like the Darjeeling Himalayan Mini Train.

Additional shuttle trips, such as Viewer Gallery Aman Lodge-Matheran-Aman Lodge, will be operated from 23rd October to 29th October. These rounds will be at 9.10 am, 9.53 am, 12.50 pm, and 1.33 pm.
